PROPERTIES:

  • Antioxidant
  • Against free radicals

Turmeric , also known as Indian curcuma , is made from the root of the Curcuma longa plant and is the main ingredient in curry . The 'sacred powder' as it is called in India has been used for centuries to heal wounds , fight infections and solve other health problems . But recently there have been recognized studies that indicate exactly how turmeric works. Research has shown that this substance influences the action of medicines and protects against free radicals. Curcumin is the main active ingredient in turmeric and has a particularly medicinal effect, as demonstrated by research at Rhodes University in South Africa.

The active substance curcumin has the property of binding to heavy metals and thus prevents these metals from causing damage to your dog or cat's body. An example of this is preventing the formation of plaques ( accumulation of heavy metals in the brain ) to ensure permanent brain function . Another function of curcumin is to promote the regrowth of nerve cells, which extend to the smallest points of the body, and to prevent their regression. These two properties together lead to better functioning of both the brain and the rest of the body with a minimum of deterioration ( in humans it reduces the risk of Alzheimer's).

Recent research has shown that curcumin can trigger various types of free radicals to initiate apoptosis ( cellular suicide ), without damaging normal and healthy cells. This active substance is also said to counteract the multiplication and spread of free radicals. Curcumin can kill certain bacteria that can be very harmful to your pet's body and can even enhance the effect of some antibiotics, making the more difficult to fight bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus, susceptible to the bactericides. The active substance in Turmeric also has the property of inhibiting the multiplication of viruses, which only few medicines are able to do. Because of this miraculous property, it can greatly promote the healing or inhibition of certain diseases. (e.g. HIV, HPV (causes cervical cancer),). Curcumin also has an antioxidant effect and captures free radicals that can cause major damage to the body on a molecular scale. By this operationaging inhibited and the risk of cancer in your dog, cat or horse greatly reduced . Several studies have shown that curcumin also has an effect on diabetic animals . This active substance is said to lower the sugar level in the blood and also restore the weight, which ensures a lower burden on the joints. In 2010, the University of Liège collected data to investigate the biological effects of curcumin on chondrocytes ( cartilage cells ).) in the joints. The chondrocytes would be protected by the use of curcumin against catabolic effects of the surrounding body reactions. By combating osteoporosis, curcumin can also counteract and prevent rheumatism and bone weakening, so that your pet can move without problems or pain.

Over the years, many studies have been conducted to evaluate the safety, pharmacokinetics and efficacy of curcumin and it has been shown that even when used regularly, at high doses and for relatively long periods of time, it does not pose any toxic risk to companion animals. All these health-promoting effects ensure a healthy body that is well maintained, leading to a life-prolonging property .
